Using your cart

Recycling Carts provide an easier way to recycle more! By switching to carts, every resident is helping reduce the amount of trash that goes to the landfills and these carts help reduce the amount of litter that is blown around by the wind on the day of your collection. Recycling carts will be emptied on the same designated day as before.

Follow these simple steps to using your new cart:

  1. After you receive your new cart, you may begin to use it immediately for recyclable materials only.
  2. Place this cart on the back of the curb on your regular recycling collection day.
  3. Carts do not have to be completely full to be set out, but we do recommend setting them out as full as possible.
  4. Remember to set your carts at the street by 7a.m. on your collection day to be sure it is picked up.
  5. Make sure to set the carts where they will be accessible from the street (not behind a mailbox, car or other obstruction).
  6. IMPORTANT: The lid opening needs to face the street.

  3. Keep cart free of food or liquid that would contaminate recyclables.
  4. Periodically, you may need to wash the inside of the cart with water and dish soap and let air dry.

Please make sure to place the cart away from all obstructions (mailboxes, parked cars, etc). These carts can not be used on your regular trash day or for any other purpose than recycling. Republic Services will leave a note identifying any problems with your cart.

It is likely that over time your recycling cart will begin to have an unpleasant odor. Simply wash the cart with a water hose when this begins to happen. It is OK to use a small amount of soap, provided the soap is rinsed from the cart. It is recommended this be done after the cart has been emptied so that it will be dry when you start to use it again.
